OLGA ZITLUHINA DANCE COMPANY was founded in 1996 as the first contemporary dance company in Latvia. The artistic director of the company is Olga Zitluhina<\/strong>. Olga Zitluhina is the headmaster and contemporary dance teacher at the Department of Contemporary\u00a0Dance Choreography\u00a0at the Latvian Academy of Culture; she teaches contemporary dance and character dance at the State Ballet School as well as choreographs for the Latvian National Opera and theatres.<\/p>\n

The forest is. The forest does not do what you want, and the sea does not roll when we need it. About what we leave behind us and what stays behind me. About what we can give and what we do give away. About what is taken without asking. About the forsaken, the gifted, the spare, the most valuable, the thickness of air, wind, breath, warmth. About our differences and similarities. About the fact that we come and go, but the forest IS. Two, but one.<\/p>\n

A duet, but two solos.<\/p>\n

There is a thick space around, as if the other does not exist. Responsibility for our deeds, for the shade that is climbing and getting wet in attempts to reach you. Is it possible to measure and summarize the traces of our corporeal existence in time and space?<\/p>\n

At the end there is nothing. Forward \u2013 to the place, from which you arrived.<\/p>\n

Shift of the focus, relations and indifference of the center and margins. It\u2019s impossible to tell who is leaving the traces in whom.<\/p>\n

No laters, no I should think, no afterwards. Afterwards it could be more expensive, more complicated. Easy access shakes hands with all we have and we go on with downloading till terabyte gets to small.<\/p>\n

Quick living? Quick learning? Quick forgetting?<\/p>\n

Relative in relation to things standing next.<\/p>\n

Huge amount happening, grate slowness entering.<\/p>\n

Is there a certain amount of possible speed in the room? In case somebody uses all of that, others stay with nothing?<\/p>\n

More gestures make speaker voice quite when we listen.<\/p>\n

Five seconds of time to look up at the sky and become full, pure and shining.<\/p>\n

Body rests in the comfortable armchair. In the real time it sits still. During Quick Time it keeps running, chasing muscles, skin and breath.<\/p>\n

Things happen fast, but there is always time to see, to hear, to feel.<\/p>\n

Certain amount of time for everybody. To be with people. We don\u2019t know how long.<\/p>\n

Our time and our people. Being with the beauty together.<\/p>\n

Work is inspired by the play Half-idealist by famous Latvian poet Rainis. This is a project where new and working methods are tried and questions about the relations among text, inspiration, dance and theoretical approach to the arts are asked. The aim is to provide unity and harmony of creative process in order to answer whether we \u2013 as half-idealists can approach something we can call an ideal? And is it necessary?<\/p>\n

Road Movie<\/p>\n

An interactive dance, music and video art show created especially for the contemporary culture forum \u201cWhite Night 2006\u201d. 5-hour long show during which eight dancers, three musicians and a video artist together with spectators move through the streets of Old Riga showing\/creating alive Road Movie.<\/p>\n

The creators of the show offer improvised and set episodes that combine with one another only during the performance following SIGNS. ROAD and ROAD SIGNS in all their possible variations for the dancers, musicians and video artist is the theme of this \u2018alive movie\u2019.<\/p>\n

Quarttescope<\/strong><\/p>\n

Quarttescope is a dance piece that blends itself to many states of transformation. By framing the space we have created, a springboard to play with. Four dancers interpret, create and collaborate with me. It is a delicate balance between translating a process of improvised and set material. Of creating something real and unreal the scope is improbable. There are many layers. The dance is visual insight of our journey together so far. It is made up of four elements: the dancers, the light design, the music and the watcher. It is only when the fourth element is present that frame becomes whole.<\/p>\n

Fill in the Gaps<\/p>\n

British choreographer Sally Doughty worked with the Company for two weeks and as a result an original co-project called “Fill in the gaps” was created. The main idea of the piece is investigation of human movement. It speaks about abstract bodies moving in the space and their relations; about collapsing and recovering bodies and essence of movement.<\/p>\n

Capriccio is a dance piece about different kinds of little dreams and caprices in life. Three women create their own small universe filled up with memories of the past and dreams about their future. Situations and people around us keep changing constantly – the mad race of the end of the century as opposite to a monotonous trip that seems to last forever. The slow-motion world as we see it through the window of a train suddenly can turn into a lively fuss of the railway station.<\/p>\n
